Description Fire Inspector II

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

Conducts inspections and maintains documentation of all facility fire inspections.

Performs plan reviews to ensure fire protection systems are IAW with policies and UFC’s guidance.

Participates and maintains the fire extinguisher exchange program for facilities.

Conducts Facility Manager, Fire Warden and other Fire Prevention training.

Works with DPW, conducts final acceptance inspections on new construction, and renovation projects.

Maintains appropriate documentation on inspection and testing of all sprinkler systems.

Participate in Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) programs.

Helps formulate long range goals related protection of personnel, facilities, materials, and equipment.

Assists with fire investigations as required under AR 420-1 specifications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications/Competency:

High School Diploma.

Associate degree in Fire Science from an accredited college or university degree in related field plus 10 years of fire and life safety inspection documented experience.

Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in Fire Science Technology or Public Safety and Fire Prevention experience totaling at least 10 years may substitute for the required Associates’ degree.

Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science preferred.

Must be either State of Florida, DoD, IFSAC, Pro-Board or hold other certification acceptable to DoD and certified to the following levels:

Fire Inspector II

Fire Instructor II

Plans Review I

Fire and Life Safety Educator I

Fire Officer II

Fire Investigator

FEMA ICS 100, 700, 200, 800, 300 and 400

Must pass physical exam, federal background check and possess a current, valid U.S. passport.

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must be able to obtain and maintain valid Secret Clearance (If required)

A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Driver’s License, is required.

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination:

To be qualified for this position you must comply with US CENTCOM MOD 16 that requires proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as defined by the CDC or host country requirements. As of now, to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 you must have received either two doses of Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine, two doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford Vaccine, two doses of Moderna Vaccine, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine, and two weeks must have elapsed after the final dose was administered.  This definition may change in accordance with CDC guidelines.  Compliance with this government requirement is an essential function of the position and is a condition of employment. 

Experience:

Required 10 years of fire and life safety inspection documented experience.

Must have a minimum 10 years’ experience as a Fire and Life Safety Inspector in US Military, DoD, Municipal or county government.

Plans Reviewer I minimum 10 years documented experience in building construction and plans review (preferred)

Skills:

Be able to work with minimum supervision.

Must possess strong written and spoken communication skills and general word processing and computer skills.

Must have knowledge of occupancy classification types, the fire hazards present in various occupancies, and the occupant load factors relating to various occupancy classifications.

Knowledge of fire department mission and organization; safety requirements and objectives; fire alarm and communications; fire behavior; portable fire extinguishers; personal protective clothing and equipment, water supplies and sprinklers; hazardous materials; fire prevention and public fire education.

Working Conditions:

Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions in Florida, with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 38 degrees in the winter and 90 degrees in the summer months).

Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
